Postmark of the Day - Astoria, Oregon on 22 May 1964.

us.astoria-lamplighter.hotel.postcard-1964.05.22

This motel stills exists and is now owned by the uncle of an old co-worker of mine. I've stayed there a few times. The last time that I did there was a loud argument in the room next door, and I will always think of it as the "yelling guy motel." I won't stay there again.

Anasazi World - Dewitt Jones and Linda Cordell

A photo book with text by Linda Cordell. Brief as the text was, I enjoyed it a lot more than the photography. Though many of the photos were quite attractive, there were equally as many in which it was difficult for me to see the ruins.

Postmark of the Day - Sidney West Letter Facility, Australia - 27 February 2024

Sidney West Letter Facility, Australia, on 27 February 2024.

The CFCP stands for Culler Facer Canceller Preparation. This is the kind of letter processing machine used for small envelopes. A marking of FSM would indicate Flat Sorting Machine, used for larger letters.

Moontrap - Don Webb

From my Goodreads entry for this book:

Moontrap, The Coast of Oregon, 1850...Moontrap, The Coast of Oregon, 1850... by Don Berry
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

When I bought this, at the Book Exchange in Missoula, I thought that I was getting myself a light western set on the Oregon Coast. It turned out to be much more than that, and I've since learned that Berry was a respected and serious writer.
I must admit it took me a while to get into it, perhaps because I found the writing style a bit irritating and the characters unsympathetic. But as I got further in I started appreciating the writing more, and empathizing with the various old trappers having trouble fitting in to a world of more law and order. And it just got more and more enjoyable until the rather tough ending.
